REALTORS® contribute thousands to community causes
VANCOUVER, B.C.– The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver’s (REBGV) six geographical divisions turned meetings, events and functions last year into fundraising opportunities, raising tens of thousands of dollars to support the needs of people in their communities.
Collectively, member REALTORS® raised $53,252.73 in monetary donations in 2008 and prepared and served more than 500 Thanksgiving meals to the most disadvantaged.
“Each year our REALTORS® seek new and innovative ways to further our REALTORS®Care initiatives and give back to the communities where they live and work, ” Dave Watt, REBGV president said.
The donations given include:
Burnaby/New Westminster/Tri Cities: Raised $6,270 for the Children’s Wish Foundation at their golf tournament.
Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Division: Raised $2,315 at their Christmas party for the Salvation Army and $5,000 for the Friends in Need at their golf tournament. The division also prepared and served over 500 turkey dinners with all the trimmings for those in need at the 14th annual Thanksgiving dinner.
Richmond/South Delta/ Gulf Islands:
Richmond: Richmond REALTORS® raised $2,200 at their Christmas party for the Richmond Hospital MRI project. They also raised $5,158 at their annual golf tournament for Deltassist and the Richmond Carefree Society.
South Delta: Raised $7,600 at their Christmas party for the Reach Child and Youth Development Society and the Delta Boys and Girls Club.
Vancouver Westside: Raised $3,825 for the BC Children’s Hospital REALTORS® Care Endowment Fund for Genetics & Oncology (this amount comes from Scotia bank’s matched funds plus 50/50). The annual Christmas Party yielded $5,144.52 in donations also for the BC Children’s Hospital REALTORS® Care Endowment Fund. Cell phone violations at meetings throughout the year further netted $ 60 for the REALTORS® Care Endowment Fund.
North Shore/Sunshine Coast/Sea-to-Sky: Raised $1,600 to support the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation - Hospice.
Vancouver East: Raised $2,506.21 for Admiral Seymour Elementary School.
Board-wide:
- REALTOR® purchases from Teldon Calendars raised $6,574.10 for Covenant House Vancouver.
- 2008 REBGV Charity Golf Classic raised $5,000 for Covenant House Vancouver.
- The 14th Annual REALTORS® Care Blanket Drive gathered 4,000 bags of blankets, sleeping bags and clothing across the Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Chilliwack and District Real Estate Boards.
