Generosity from people across the Lower Mainland helped make the 20th annual REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive a success.

More than 17,000 blankets and other clothing items were donated to help the region’s working poor and homeless populations, between November 17 and 24. These donations were either donated at one of the approximately 100 participating real estate offices or picked up by REALTOR® volunteers.

“The Blanket Drive is the largest and longest running program of its kind in the Lower Mainland,” said Ray Harris, president of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver. “Each year, charities across the region rely on this program to help meet the demand for warm clothing in our communities.”

In the past 20 years, the Blanket Drive has helped bring warmth to more than 250,000 people. All donations remain in the community in which they were collected.

 “The goal of the program has always been to collect the highest quality items to meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents in our communities,” Laura-Leah Shaw, REALTOR® and long-time Blanket Drive volunteer said.

The Harvest Project in North Vancouver has received donations from the program for several years. Each year, this organization connects with approximately 300 families and individuals challenged by family breakdown, illness, job loss and poverty.

 “The items donated this year allow us to provide coats and clothing to women and men returning to the work force or school as well as those who simply need proper clothing for the winter season,” Kevin Lee, development officer at Harvest Project said.

The REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive is an annual partnership between the REALTORS® of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board and their communities.
