Best of commercial building honoured at event
VANCOUVER, BC – The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) honoured the very best in commercial building at its 2nd annual Commercial Building Awards on September 29.
A sold-out crowd at the Marriot Vancouver Pinnacle was on hand to see the Maria Keary Cottage, a 35-bed supportive housing facility located at 305 Carnarvon Street in New Westminster, win the top honour of the night, the Judges’ Choice Award. The building also won the Excellence Award in the community facility’s category for owner, Westcoast Genesis Society; architect, Pattison Architecture; and general contractor, Colter Developments.
“This event is about celebrating innovation, talent and the spirit of collaboration in our building community,” Rosario Setticasi, REBGV president. “These awards are a salute to professionals committed to meeting the needs of today without sacrificing those of future generations."
Other award winners were:
- Jameson House, 830 West Hastings Street in Vancouver, received two excellence awards one for mixed use- commercial/residential and the other for green/energy efficiency.
- Amanat Architect., 1515 West 7th Avenue in Vancouver, received an award of merit in the mixed use – commercial/residential category.
- Dolce and Vita at Symphony Place, 565 and 535 Smithe Street, Vancouver received a merit award in the same category.
- The Parissa Laboratories, 2400 Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver, received excellence award for the industrial category and a merit award for green/energy efficiency.
- The Rosewood Hotel Georgia, 801 West Georgia Street in Vancouver, won the commercial renovation /restoration excellence award.
- UBC Museum of Anthropology Renewal, 6393 NW Marine Drive won the merit award in the category of commercial renovation/restoration.
- The Aboriginal Mother Centre, 2019 Dundas Street, received the merit award in the community facility category.
- The Cliffwalk at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, 3735 Capilano Road won an excellence award for Community Facility - Tourist Attraction.
Three merit awards were given in the Rentals/Affordable housing category. They were awarded to:
- District Main Phase 2, 4453 Main Street in Vancouver, Sorella, 505 Abbott Street.
- Dockyards at Port Royal, 200-202 Salter Street, New Westminster.
- Willingdon Park, 4350 Still Creek Drive in Burnaby.
The judges evaluated each submission on the following criteria:
- Does it complement or add to the surrounding properties and neighbourhood?
- Is it esthetically pleasing?
- What construction materials were used in the overall design?
- Has the developer incorporated any unique architectural features?
- Is the nomination built in an environmentally sensitive manner?
- Does this project compare to other projects in the same category?
