Downtown Eastside school thanks REALTORS® for helping hand
Admiral Seymour Elementary School is near and dear to member volunteers in the Vancouver East area. Over the past few years, these Realtors have helped the school, generously giving both money and time.
Earlier this year, Realtors came together to raise funds to help students from Admiral Seymour attend summer camp. The students wrote a letter to explain what this trip meant to them:
Thank you for making our camp experience a successful and memorable one! The students had a blast trying their hand at many new activities and came out of camp confident, capable and great leaders for one another.
Thanks to your donation, the financial burden was eased, and the students were able to concentrate on what matters most – developing their sense of self. At this age, ages 11 and 12, students are so open to influences that shape their character. This particular trip did just that!
Many students overcame anxiety and homesickness on the first day. By the second day of our trip, they had learned to trust each other, console and encourage each other and, importantly, develop their sense of self-worth and self-confidence.
Living in the downtown east side is not easy for these students, and they are grateful to have the opportunity to escape their home community – their reality – to develop invaluable skills through outdoor education. Thank you for this.
The students look forward to fundraising again next year for another opportunity to develop their strengths and their hidden talents!
