Sometimes it's the most personal of events that affects us in ways unimagined. Whether it happens to you, a loved one or a friend, we are compelled to lessen or eradicate the suffering for others.

Ada Cheung and Kerry Dennehy are two such people.

Ada Cheung

Sutton  Group-West Coast Realty

Ada was honoured for her work promoting organ donation, particularly among Chinese youth. A kidney recipient herself, Ada knows the ordeals associated with kidney disease.

In 2007, Ada completed her third term as president of the Chinese Renal Association. She worked throughout the year to organize, implement and execute a promotional campaign about the need for organ donations. The campaign concluded with a press conference where influential Chinese community leaders and celebrities signed organ donor cards.

Kerry Denehy

Sotheby’s International Realty

Kerry was honoured for his work with the Kelty Patrick Denehy Foundation, whose mission is the prevention of depression related suicide in young people by taking a leadership role in education, effective treatments, and research.

After losing his son, Kerry created the Foundation and has raised $2.44 million (as of 2007), with proceeds going to fund programs such as the only free-standing mental health facility for youth in BC and the establishment of a Chair in depression research at the UBC/VGH Centre of Excellence for Depression Research.
